What is Tuna Tartare
Tuna tartare is a meal made of finely diced raw tuna seasoned with whichever taste profile one like. This dish is often served as an appetizer on most high-end restaurant menus.
Tuna may be pricey to consume in restaurants. Because cooking at home is always cheaper, creating tuna tartare without cooking makes sense. Tuna is high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, making it a nutritious food choice!
Ingredients
- 8 oz sushi grade ahi tuna finely chopped
- 2 tsp pure sesame oil
- 1 tsp rice wine
- 2 tsp fresh lime juice
- 2 tsp soy sauce or gluten-free tamari
- 1 tsp sriracha or more to taste
- 2 tbsp chives minced
- 2 tbsp panko crumbs plain or gluten-free
- 1 ripe firm hass avocado, diced
- 1 tsp black and white sesame seeds
How To Make Tuna Tartare
The first step is to find the freshest sushi-grade tuna. If you aren’t fishing it yourself, go to your preferred fishmonger and request sushi grade tuna or raw tuna.
What us sushi grade fish?
The sushi grade designation indicates that the fish is of the best quality available at the store and that it may be eaten raw with confidence. For example, wholesalers check and grade tuna. The finest ones are awarded Grade 1, which is often offered as sushi grade. The fish should be deep crimson with no fishy odor. Tuna should be refrigerated or cooled and kept on ice until ready to serve.
It’s best eaten raw on the day it’s made, but it may be kept in the fridge for up to two days.
