Materials

  • - 2 cups of milk
  • - 1 egg
  • - 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • - 2 cups of flour
  • - Pinch of salt
  • - 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • - 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • - 6 tablespoons of butter melted
  • - Vegetable oil for frying
  • - Powdered sugar for sprinkling
  • - Optional: Whipped cream or fruit for topping

Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

  • - In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well combined.
  • - Add in the salt, baking soda, and sugar, stirring until the mixture is smooth.
  • - Gradually fold in the flour, mixing until the batter is smooth and lump-free.

Prepare for Frying:

  • - Pour the batter into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag and set aside for a few minutes.
  • - In a large frying pan, pour vegetable oil to a depth of about half an inch. Heat the oil on high for about two minutes, then reduce the heat to medium.
  • - Test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it. If bubbles form around the edges, the oil is ready for frying.

Fry the Bites:

  • - Cut a small hole in one corner of the Ziplock bag to pipe the batter.
  • - Carefully drizzle the batter into the hot oil, forming 1-2 inch circles.
  • - Cook until the bottom side is golden brown, then flip with a slotted metal spatula to cook the other side until golden brown.
  • - Remove the bites from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serve:

  • - Sprinkle the funnel cake bites generously with powdered sugar.
  • - Serve with optional toppings like whipped cream or fresh fruit.
