HONEY ROASTED APPLES AND POTATOES
This dish is perfect if you enjoy honey-roasted apples but would want something a bit fancier for Easter dinner. You may still enjoy the delightful flavor of honey apples without having to sanitize your cast-iron pan. If you’d like, you can quickly combine all the ingredients in the baking dish and make Honey Roasted Apples and Potatoes, which is almost a one-pan meal.
For potlucks or special occasions, Honey Roasted Apples and Potatoes are an ideal meal to prepare in advance. Before baking, you can put the dish together, pour the glaze over it, cover it with foil, and chill for up to a day. If you are baking straight from the refrigerator, you will need to increase your cook time by five to ten minutes.
With the modifications listed below, you may prepare the Honey Roasted Apples and Potatoes in the Crockpot to make this recipe even simpler. There is a fantastic substitution that tastes just as excellent under the modifications section if you enjoy cooking with alcohol!
VARIATIONS
- Other Root Vegetables: Turnips, parsnips, and rutabagas would be excellent options. Sweet potatoes can be substituted as well. To ensure you don’t overcook, test your swap after baking for 30 minutes.
- Apples: You may also use Jonagold, Granny Smith, Gala, Honeycrisp, and other baking apples. Don’t use apples that are softer, like Red Delicious.
- Spices: You can use spices like cloves, cardamom, or nutmeg, or you can use Pumpkin Pie Spice in place of the spices in this recipe.
- Bourbon: You may use ¼ cup sparkling apple cider and 1 tablespoon vanilla instead of bourbon when cooking. Other sparkling juices, such as grape or cranberry, can also be used.
- Corn syrup or maple syrup can be used in place of the honey. Reduce the brown sugar to ⅓ cup if you choose to use dark corn syrup.
- Nuts: Toasted almonds, walnuts, or hazelnuts can be used as a crunchy topping in place of chopped pecans. Granola clusters are another option.
Slow Cooker Honey Apples and Potatoes
Buttering the slow cooker’s sides and bottom is the first step in making slow cooker honey apples and potatoes. Cut the apples and potatoes into ⅓-inch slices. After adding the apples to the bottom of the crockpot, add the potatoes on top. Rather than glazing them, sprinkle the other ingredients (except the nuts) over the apples and potatoes. Cook on low for 4 to 4 ½ hours with a lid on. Add the pecans on top and simmer for a further thirty minutes.
