Philadelphia Fillings
Layer the thinly sliced salmon and cucumber, then add the creamy cream cheese. Make sure the filling stretches from one end of the nori to the other to ensure each bite has a balanced blend of ingredients. While it’s tempting to stuff the roll to the brim, overfilling will lead to an unmanageable mess. Instead of a sushi roll, you might end up with something closer to a taco. Although, a sushi taco does sound intriguing – perhaps a recipe for another day!
Just Roll With It!
Let’s start rolling so we can dig in! Use the bamboo mat lined with plastic wrap to encase the sushi roll. Push the mat forward over the roll, apply gentle pressure to firm it up, and continue rolling smoothly until the roll is fully formed. Once your Philly roll is complete, sprinkle it with sesame seeds, then slice it into six or eight even pieces using a sharp, wet knife. - 1 cup Sushi rice Cooked & Seasoned
- 2 sheets Nori
- 120 gr Sushi grade raw salmon (or smoked slamon)
- 100 gr Cream cheese
- 1/2 Cucumber
- 1 tsp Sesame seeds
INSTRUCTIONS
Here’s a simplified version of the steps to make a Philadelphia roll:
- Prepare sushi rice.
- Cut salmon and cucumber into 1 cm (or 1/2 inch) thin strips.
- Break a nori sheet in half and cover it with sushi rice. Flip the nori and arrange the filling (salmon, cucumber, and cream cheese) on top of the rice.
- Roll the sushi using a bamboo mat, keeping it firm and even.
- Sprinkle some sesame seeds.
- Cut the roll into 6 or 8 even pieces.
- Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger (gari).
