Our simple orange chicken dish adds a healthy twist to the sweet-savory Chinese takeout staple.
Ingredients:
โข 1.5 lbs (about 700g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
โข 1 cup orange juice
โข 1/2 cup chicken broth
โข 1/3 cup soy sauce
โข 1/4 cup rice vinegar
โข 1/4 cup brown sugar
โข 2 tablespoons cornstarch
โข 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
โข 2 cloves garlic, minced
โข 1 teaspoon grated ginger
โข Vegetable oil for frying
โข Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish
Instructions:
1. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
2. In a bowl, whisk together orange juice, chicken broth, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, cornstarch, orange zest, garlic, and ginger to make the sauce.
3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
4. Fry the seasoned chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
5. In the same pan, add the sauce mixture and simmer until it thickens.
6. Add the cooked chicken back to the pan, coating it in the thickened sauce.
7. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
8. Serve the orange chicken over rice or noodles.
